Pete King

Pete grew up drumming on everything in sight and owes an everlasting debt to his parents for putting up with him!  He is still obsessed with drums and plays a double bass drum kit by Yamaha, with Paiste Signature Series cymbals and snares and other key components from Premier.

He inherited his first drum set from Richard Sizeland of “Preamble Spectrum” – a Premier bass drum, a high hat, and a snare and small tom with calf heads of unknown make. Some favourite drummers are Dave Weckl, Mitch Mitchell, Buddy Rich, Simon Phillips, Charlie Watts, and Billy Cobham.

Pete works full-time for the Government as Government Secretary in Central Administration which tends to keep him quiet for most of the day. Musical tastes are varied: anything featuring the aforementioned drummers, Robbie Williams, the Corrs (especially the drummer) , Big Band jazz, Maggie Bell, Anastasia, Janis Joplin, Santana, some of his daughter’s CD’s, Liz Fletcher, Frank Sinatra, and a million others.  Favourite tracks: Mack the Knife and Down by the Sea (Bobby Darin).  Self-taught except for some lessons taken in Brighton from a great guy called Mike Butler who ran a shop there called “Total Percussion”. Mike had himself been tutored by the fabulous Joe Morello.  Pete is a fan of Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London – managed by another Pete King! - and goes there whenever he is in UK . His most memorable visits were in June 2001 when he saw and met both Dave Weckl  and Charlie Watts in the one week. Why did he take up the drums? Well, he can’t sing, and his laugh is pretty awful as well.  A major competitor is Len  who is becoming a demon with a pair of drumsticks……………………so read on friend.
